Katy Piontsak, LMSW

Katy Piontsak is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Michigan. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Katy has a diverse professional background, with experience at a domestic violence shelter supporting women and children, working in local and state policymaking, and advising undergraduate students at the University of Michigan.

Katy earned her Master’s of Social Work degree with a concentration in Clinical Social Work Practice from the University of Washington, Seattle. During her first year of graduate clinical practice, she provided brief, solutions-focused case management and therapy services to older adults. During her second year of graduate clinical practice, she provided individual, couples and family therapy in a community mental health setting. Katy has worked with people of all ages, from children to older adults, on challenges related to their mental health, relationships, and environmental stressors. She has been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and works with clients using a trauma-informed, person- centered approach.

Katy believes in walking alongside her clients on their road to healing and recovery. She believes that in order to cultivate the most supportive environment for growth, she must provide a space that is filled with genuineness, acceptance, and empathy. Along with providing a safe, non- judgmental space, Katy will share tools and resources for improving symptoms, highlight her client’s strengths, and work to empower her client’s by centering them as the expert in their lived experience and the leader in their healing and recovery journey.
