Mary Masiarak-Byars – LMSW
Mary is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in working with females, teens and non-binary individuals that struggle with anxiety and depression. She also specializes in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
Currently, Mary is getting certified in Perinatal Mood Disorders in order to work more with new mothers struggling with Postpartum Depression and Anxiety. Mary earned her B.A. in Psychology at the University of Michigan Dearborn. During her time there, she worked as a research assistant conducting a study of mothers with Depression. She then earned her Master’s degree in Social Work with a specialization in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Mary has worked in Community Mental Health, schools and hospitals. Mary brought yoga into the schools while working there. She was able to get up to 60 students at a time to learn calming tools, mindfulness and meditation. Mary has spent most of her social work career working in the Emergency Department with individuals in crisis.
Using a mindfulness approach, she wants to help her clients take control of their lives by becoming aware of the way they think. Mary works with clients to provide a safe and non-judgmental space to help challenge irrational thoughts and to foster the skills needed to be present in their everyday life.
