Whitney Hagen, Ph.D.
Dr. Whitney Hagen (she/her/hers, they/them/theirs) is a licensed psychologist in the state of Michigan. She received her PhD in counseling psychology from the University of Utah and completed her doctoral internship at Appalachian State University. Prior to joining Arbor Psychology Group, Whitney worked with adults in university settings, including University of Michigan’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and Medical Student Mental Health Program.
Whitney has over 14 years of experience working with adults to address a wide range of concerns. She has interests and expertise in working with relationship issues; family conflict; trauma and PTSD; life transitions; identity development; anxiety; depression; grief; stress; binge eating; body image; self-esteem, and pregnancy, prenatal, postpartum, and parenting concerns. She is particularly passionate about women’s issues.
Whitney values understanding people’s identities and experiences in socio-cultural-political context and collaborating to build supportive therapeutic connections. Her therapeutic approach is integrative, strengths-based, and evidence-based. She draws from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), relational cultural therapy, feminist multicultural therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), attachment theory, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), and compassion-focused approaches. She aims to provide a warm, compassionate therapy experience for clients to reflect, heal, grow, and ultimately create meaningful lives.
