SPACE Parenting Group
This virtual/video group is for parents of children (ages 5-16) who struggle with anxiety. Childhood anxiety can vary in how it presents and what the anxiety is related to. Children may have a fear of a specific thing or situation and/or might have more generalized worries. This group will use Eli Lebowitz’s evidence-based SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) model as a framework to help educate parents about anxiety and accommodating behaviors, support and empower parents to make changes in their behaviors in order to reduce their child’s anxiety, and offer tips and strategies to help parents co-regulate their own emotions. Parents will select one behavior/situation to focus on during the group with the goal of using skills and strategies to continue to help their child(ren) manage other areas of anxiety.
The group will be led by Becky Gracia, LMSW. Becky is a child/adolescent therapist and mindfulness teacher at Arbor Psychology Group. She is also a mom to two young children. She has over 17 years of experience working with children, teens and parents; anxiety is the most common theme when working with clients. She loves to help empower parents to understand anxiety and make changes in their own behavior that help their children feel more confident and independent.
When:
This is a virtual group that will meet for six sessions on Monday evenings from 6:00 – 7:30 PM. Meeting dates are:
January 6th
January 13th
January 27th
February 3rd
February 10th
February 24th
(No sessions on January 20th or February 17th)
Cost:
Participants can use BCBS PPO insurance plans or pay privately. The private pay fee is $300 ($50 per session)
Required materials:
Participants will need to purchase/obtain a copy of Eli Lebowitz’s book, Breaking Free of Child Anxiety and OCD: A Scientifically Proven Program for Parents
Optional Follow-up Session:
Participants will be able to schedule one individual follow-up session with Becky to trouble-shoot and further develop the strategies discussed in the group. BCBS PPO insurance plans may be billed for this session or participants can pay the $170 session fee privately.
